If you are a teenager in the state of Georgia, you are bound to hear about the Georgia Tech (GT)–University of Georgia (UGA) rivalry at least once. From the stickers on the trunks of cars, to the doormats in front of doors; citizens in Georgia make it clear what school they deem is superior. Some are sick of this never-ending argument, while others view it as a clear-cut decision they could argue for hours about.

“I can’t go for a day without hearing the mindless argument. I thought it was obvious GT is the smart school and UGA is the sports school,” said senior Suhani Kapur

However, there is one school that outshines the other in almost every field–The University of Georgia.

Referred to as the “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate,” this rivalry has been rooted in for ages. In recent years, there hasn’t been much of a contest. From national championships to packed stadiums that bleed red and black; UGA is without a doubt the heart of Georgia’s sports scene. With some of the toughest and most disciplined football players, Head coach Kirby Smart has built a program all about teamwork and winning: and the scoreboards prove that. Georgia Tech may have rigor, but UGA has the brawn and the trophies to prove true success.

“UGA has this sort of aura. When anyone thinks of Georgia's football, they think of UGA, not Georgia Tech,” said senior Faith Anuebunwa.

While one win might mean luck: more than five consecutive wins against Georgia Tech proves UGA’s ability to dominate Georgia Tech in football. But, it’s not only football that UGA excels in. Whether it be gymnastics, baseball, tennis or track, UGA is rarely outshined, and almost never by Georgia Tech. The athletes compete nationally, and the fans never fall short to support.

Not to mention, game day in Athens means red and black at every corner of your eye. Sanford Stadium is filled with excited fans yelling so loud you can hear it miles away. The energy is felt throughout the stadium–both athletes and students are just eager to support the dominant team. Georgia Tech's smaller crowd at Bobby Dodd doesn't even compete when it comes to student sections.

In the end, Georgia Tech supporters can argue all they want, but the shelves full of trophies outshine their argument. Year after year the bulldogs continue to prove why they solo the rivalry. The athletics, the fan base, and the continuous dominance are a few of the many factors on why that red and black logo is popular not just in Athens, but everywhere else in the state.
