The beginning of this new year brings an end to previous sport seasons. Our school’s swimming and wrestling teams have been doing well this current season, but now it is time to focus on the many spring sports including but not limited to soccer, track and field and tennis teams.
Basketball season is ending this February, and the team is looking to make a playoff run, with the recent score they are on track to host an excellent one.
“We are currently having a really good season. We are 18-3, one of the best seasons in Johns Creek history. We have a group of guys who have played together for a long time and know each other really well. The camaraderie of the team is what has made this season so enjoyable. Winnings games have been fun but getting to spend time off the court is what has made this season truly special so far.” Said the head of the boys' basketball team, Coach Burnett.
With the help of their coach, the boys have been crushing it in state and have been ranked top 10 in the state of Georgia.
“It’s really fun and we have a great sense of community as a team, I’ve been playing with these guys since 5th grade, so it’s been great getting to play with them in our last year of high school.” said basketball player Jack Rinehart.
The first track and field meeting has recently taken place, but students can still expect many opportunities to join. It is an excellent way for students to improve themselves physically. The team has many events including the upcoming distance carnival event against Marietta high school and are expected to crush it.
“I love the people on track and there's nothing quite like the vibe of a track meet,” said junior track member Davis Rohner.
The school’s tennis team has won numerous state championships, with six consecutive state championships from 2018 to 2024 with previous head coach, coach Hedden. The current head coach and geometry teacher, Daniel Ritter, makes sure to push his team to their limits and keep them on track just how the previous coach, Coach Hedden, did.
“I expect the tennis team to have another successful season and for the players to have a good time. I am proud of the way that players conduct themselves with high levels of sportsmanship,” said Coach Ritter.
Noteworthy players like Aaron Chang have worked hard to win two state championships and three region titles while simultaneously earning the respect of the coaches.
The boys' soccer team in 2025 reached the state semi-final with many successful wins. Each member works hard to continue their streak of successful seasons, especially as they open the Creek Cup against Lee County and will soon face Alpharetta and North Atlanta in February. The addition of a first-year soccer team has leveled the balance from being seniors to a more diverse group.
Other sports that are excelling this season include the school's baseball team, who are soon to go against Centennial February 12th and Cambridge the day after, and the lacrosse team, who are doing exceptionally well with Brad Lindamood as the head coach. Both sports, though not as active as the ones mentioned above, are going on strong.
This season is a very promising one for the school, both during competitions and practices, let us continue to cheer our teams on as they continue to excel on and off the field.
